Free Virtual Mental Health Support for Pitt County Schools

Somethings offers free virtual mental health support to Pitt County Schools students ages 13-19. Through our partnership with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS), teens across the state can access Somethings at no cost, regardless of insurance status or family circumstances. This ensures every student has a safe, supportive resource when they need it most.

On the Somethings app, students connect with certified peer support specialists trained in mentoring, goal setting, and compassionate listening. These mentors create a space where students feel seen, heard, and valued. The relationship is student-centered, focusing on whatever matters most to the student, whether academic challenges, school stress, friendships, family relationships, or emotions like loneliness and anxiety. Together, students and mentors set personal goals and work toward building positive coping skills, resilience, and improved well-being. Each student is matched with a mentor based on their preferences, goals, and lived experiences. Mentors are young adults (21-29) who have similar lived experiences to the students they support. They are supervised by clinical supervisors who proactively work with students of concern and are available for any escalations or crises that may arise.

Somethings meets students at their level of need. For those with milder concerns, it provides a trusted listener who reduces isolation and offers reassurance. For students with more significant needs, it offers regular check-ins and daily support to help them stay connected and grounded. In all cases, the service is preventive, accessible, and tailored specifically for teens.

Our mentors are available every day after school, giving students a private, judgment-free space to share their thoughts outside school hours. The program's free, confidential, and statewide availability removes barriers to access to care.
